1. Base:
The base is made up of cup-board which is strong enough to hold back things and this would prevent spilling. The cup-board is made up of multi-layered paper and should be capable of waterproofing. Certain cups are even having an insulating membrane for heat retention.
2. Waterproofing layer:
Initially in to meet the demand of waterproofing the paper potion cups clay was used. The manufacturers used to spray the bottom of the cup with clay material which in due course used to get evenly distributed. 3. Printing on the paper portion cups:
Flexography is used to print on the paper cups, for an instance paper ice-cream containers are often have the name of the manufacturing companies’ name printed on the cup/ lid. This is done by flexographic process; the ink used is water-based. Previously solvent-based ink was used but that left an unwanted smell on the cups, hence water-based inks are used even with new technology, eco-friendly inks like soya-based inks are used extensively. These inks are basically derived from plant-matter and are absolutely harmless. However flexography yields printing of an unlimited number of cups at a time, while direct X-printing technology involves the printing of limited number of cups at attractive sizes and shapes. Ice-cream cup containers require high quality printing for those a unique technique is used ROTOGRAVURE.
4. Lids:
The paper Ice-cream container lids are of two types; one of which is press-on type which is actually a family size pack, where all of the stuff is not used at a time and therefore could be packed and kept up for future use. The second type is reseal-able; these are meant for a single use purpose.
The paper cup wholesalers are directly linked with the company but are actually bounded within the area of wholesaling.
