Liposuction Pros and Cons for Adults

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that uses a hollow, rod-like instrument to suck out the fat from selected areas of the patient's body. The hollow, rod-like instrument is called a cannula and it is connected to a high-powered vacuum that is especially designed for the purpose of removing the liquefied fat from specific areas of the body. There are various areas of the body that can benefit from the this operation including, but not limited to, the abdomen, the buttocks, thighs, upper arms, the chin, claves and parts of the back. Before the operation is scheduled, the doctor and the patient will agree which parts of the body will benefit most from the lipoplasty. The doctor will explain to the patient why certain areas are not feasible.

Pros and Cons
The pros of the liposuction procedure are quite numerous compared to the downsides that it could bring. One very big benefit of the procedure is the almost immediate improvement of the physical appearance of the area where the procedure was performed. The desired changes may be apparent just several days after the operation, which is such a joy to those who have wanted these changes for a long time. Along with the happiness of having the body and shape that one has wanted for a long time comes the confidence and satisfaction of knowing that he or she looks good. In this day and age, people put a lot of stock in appearance, and being trim and lean is one of the ways to look good. Another big advantage of this procedure is that the fat is permanently removed from the body. This means that with the right maintenance, the person should be able to keep the slim and lean appearance. The almost immediate results can also inspire the patients to maintain their newly acquired svelte figure and shape. Maintenance is usually through regular exercise and the right diet.

One big issue that people have with liposuction is the risk that comes with the operation. There are several risks that can happen to anyone without any particular warning. The invasive procedure requires that the patient be under a general anesthetic the whole time and this can complicate things if there are underlying conditions and diseases. The body can react unfavorably to any medicines and drugs that it is exposed to during and after the procedure. Another downside to the procedure is if the patient does not maintain a regular exercise program and the right diet, the remaining fat cells in the area where the liposuction was performed may fill up and the result. This could look worse than cellulite because the skin will have a bumpy and uneven appearance since the remaining fat cells cannot occupy the space of the ones which were removed.

These are some of the pros and cons of the lipoplasty surgery. Plastic surgeons usually warn their patients regarding the risks that come with the procedure.
